Chris Purvis Interview

You know those questions you've always asked yourself, like: Who came up with Murray? What connection does The 11th Hour have with Curse of Monkey Island? What exactely did Ackley and Ahren do after CMI? Is my favourite Monkey Island updater a stalker? Well, in our latest interview with Chris Purvis, who was a co-designer and writer on the third Monkey Island game, you get all those questions, and a lot more answered. Go read, now!

Interesting!! It's cool that he invented Murray.

Purvis: I buzz off your artwork. But If you wasn't so much involved with the project then why would you make artwork that actually sets the whole scene of the game?

Either that or you'ld rather be blissfully ignorant. ;)

Nice interview, but for me one question remains: the reason why Chuck wrote that "made in Luxembourg" dialog line when Guybrush looks at the comedy mask in CMI? I'm a Luxembourger and we really do not have any tradition in creating masks of any kind, I was wondering since ever how Chuck (as I know now from the interview) came up with this idea.
I always wanted to ask this one of the CMI developers but never got a chance. Geez, I guess it will remain buried with the secret of Monkey Island forever :)

Wow, i kinda forgot about the vase from MI1...thats cool.
Its a shame they couldn't put the longer end sequence in though, i thought the rollercoaster just ruined the game...

I don't think it ruined the game, but it could have been better. Just a shame that the Elaine fighting the skeletons couldn't work. Ah well.

I never realised people were so obsessed with this 'porcelain' joke. If you can call it a joke.

well i didnt mean that it ruined the game, just that the rest of the game and its puzzles were all so good, and the rollercoaster seemed a bit easy and unimaginative.

And the porcelain jokes funny because he says he'll "explain later" but never does

I remember that guy going on about Monkey Island and Vietnam! Ahhh, that was a loooong time ago. See, even back then LEC guys read the site! *sigh*

Hehe, I just knew that last bit was by telarium. I'm sure you've got huge bulky archives at home and whiteboards with names and maps of the San Francisco area with pushpins all over it and bags with LEC employees' hair and stuff like that.
