We have a winner

Our Talk Like a Pirate Day competition has come to an end, and after hours of careful consideration weve come to a decision. It wasnt easy, but in the end we were won over by the brute force of Mr Flibbles entries. Congratulations to you, a signed copy of Well Blow Me Down! will reach you shortly, and commiserations to the losers who didnt quite make it.

Wed like to thank the Talk Like A Pirate Day people for donating the great prize. If you didnt win then Id heartedly recommend buying the book off their site its an essential purchase for any self-repsecting Monkey Island fan (as is this, apparently).Id also like to thank everyone who submitted an entry, as well as everyone who saw the competition and thought about writing something but in the end couldnt be bothered. The important thing is we that we spreaded the word about Talk Like A Pirate Day!

There are some genuinely brilliant definitions over on the competition page, so take time to read them all if you havent already.

Look out for the next SCUMM Bar competition, but in the mean-time here are some of Mr Flibbles entries that tickled out fancy the most:

Knockin'-The-Coffin:
(n.) 1. A close shave 2. Necrophilia

The-old-throw-down-turn-around:
(n.) Dropping anchor, then lifting it again very quickly. There is evidence of this from 1688. GirlyMan ( & Spanish) pirates often described this as a tactical manoeuvre, so it has evolved a secondary meaning, an insult along the lines of "That mans wetter than a haddock's bathing suit."

La Temps de Marron Pantalon:
(n.)1.French pirate slang for a losing battle. 2. French equiv. of English phrase 'big brown'. "Zut Alors! Garcon, c'est La temps de marron pantalon! We are doomed!"

touching her up:
The act of using ropes to keep a disabled vessel in place whilst it is boarded. "Alright lads, she's defenceless! Touch Her Up!!"

melon-peddler:
(n.) 1.Imposter or bad leader. 2. Man prone to self-fornication

big brown:
(n.) Adapted from "big blue". Slang for after-math of bad cheese, biscuits, linguini etc.

starwor:
(n.) Person or thing that suceeds by sheer luck rather than talent or ability.
